Report: 97% of Mennonites Still Refer to ‘Mennonite Church’ as ‘General Conference’

ELKHART, IN

The General Conference, I mean Mennonite Church, would like to clarify something for everyone. The denomination changed it’s name quite a while ago and wishes people would get it right already.

“The General Conference, I mean Mennonite Church, is the largest Mennonite denomination in the country,” said Mr. Burkholder. “There are General Conference, I mean Mennonite Church, churches in nearly every state in the country!”

Despite efforts to rebrand, the General Conference, I mean Mennonite Church, is having trouble shaking the former name.

“Us General Conferencers, I mean Mennonite Churchers, just need a bit of practice,” said Burkholder. “Every day before I sleep, I read the Sermon on the Mount, a couple chapters of Donald Kraybill, and then repeat “MCUSA, MCUSA” over and over again until I’m out.”

A recent survey suggests that 97% of all Mennonites still use the term GCers, rather than the official MC USAers or MC Canaders like they’re supposed to.
