Hutterite Woman Dresses as a Mennonite for Halloween

GREEN SWAMP COLONY, AB

Hutterite woman Sarah Maendel of the Green Swamp Colony dressed as scariest thing she could think of this Halloween – a Mennonite.

“I had most of the attire already,” said Maendel. “Just needed to adjust my head covering a little. Oh, and toss the rollerblades, of course. Then I fit right in.”

Maendel also was able to perfect the Plautdietsch accent and she was ready to go.

“The best thing about it is, Hutterite or Mennonite, none of us celebrate Halloween,” said Maendel. “So you know it was just a normal evening on the colony. Except they’d never let a Mennonite woman pluck the chickens, so it was a bit more relaxed than normal.”

Maendel said she spent about half an hour in town this evening, hoping her new costume would impress.

“But none of them can tell the difference between a Hutterite and a Mennonite anyway,” said Maendel.
