Church New Year’s Eve Party Over By 8 PM

OMAHA, NB

Revellers at the Omaha Mennonite Church plan to ring in the New Year in the church basement tonight with hymn singing, board games, and Grandma Jansen’s onion dip. The festivities are scheduled to last well into the early evening.

“The church board is a little nervous about letting everyone stay up much past faspa,” said Mrs. Buller. “But I gave them my personal guarantee that everyone would get to bed at a reasonable hour.”

As soon as Mrs. Buller blows her whistle at 8 PM, all partiers are expected to head back home and get straight to bed. Mrs. Buller has been hitting the hay early for the past month in order to prepare herself for New Year’s Eve.

“Mennonite New Year’s Eve parties are pretty wild, but they’re also rough on the system!” said Mrs. Buller. “I’m prepared, however, and I’m really looking forward to staying up a little past my bedtime with my fellow church mates.”

The party is not without the traditional New Year’s countdown, however, which is scheduled to begin at 10 seconds before 6.

“We count down from ten just like everyone else,” explained Mrs. Buller. “You know how it goes: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Happy Almost New Year!”

The winner of the Omaha Mennonite Church Scrabble tournament will be awarded one extra New Year’s Cookie and will be permitted to stay up all the way until 8:30.
