The National Committee for the Proliferation of Proper Food Spelling has issued a friendly reminder to folks on the Canadian prairies that the plural of pierogi is actually pierogi.
“It’s not ‘pierogies,'” said Mr. Sawatzky. “It’s just pierogi. That’s it. Simple.”
However, breaking over a century of incorrect grammar is going to be difficult for Canadians.
“It’s going to cost $5 million in menu updates alone,” said local restauranteur Diane Wiens. “Oh, well, I guess we’ll just have to cut back on the number of pierogies, I mean pierogi, on each plate.”
The Committee is also asking for “city Mennonites” to stop calling vereniki pierogi.
“And you might as well cut out the schmaunt fat, too,” said Sawatzky. “I don’t know where you came up with that.”
The Committee is hoping to have all the changes in place in time for Fall Supper season.
