Empty Peavey Mart to be Replaced with Empty Pizza Hut

STEINBACH, MB

Less than a year after opening its doors, the Peavey Mart in Steinbach will be closing shop to be replaced by an empty Pizza Hut.

“We were really hoping an empty Safeway store or empty Taco Bell might want to occupy the space,” said Bart Bueckert, chair of the Abandoned Strip Mall Redevelopment Committee. “Or maybe an empty unused church building might move in.”

In order to accommodate the empty Pizza Hut, the old Peavey Mart will be completely gutted, followed by a $6 million renovation of the roofline to really give it that empty Pizza Hut feel.

“I’m sad to see the empty Peavey Mart leave, but I’m glad to know the building will be housing an empty Pizza Hut,” said local woman Olga Martens. “Pizza Hut-shaped buildings really give our community that small town charm, you know?”

Not everyone agreed with Martens’ optimism, however. A massive Battle Royale will take place at AD Penner Park this Saturday to settle the matter. All Wow Steinbach group members are invited to attend.
