Highway 75 Celebrates 75 Years Under Construction

ALTONA, MB

Festivities were held in nearby Altona, Manitoba this week to commemorate 75 years of road work on Highway 75.

“My father worked on this road, my grandfather worked on this road, even my great-grandfather worked on this road,” said road crew worker Dave Martens. “It’s quite the legacy. I’m hoping I can pass on the tradition of working on Highway 75 to my own kids and grandkids.”

To celebrate the anniversary, locals sat around on huge chunks of displaced concrete and held competitions to see who could hurl a chunk of asphalt the furthest.

“I’m not sure I’ll be around to attend the 150th anniversary,” said Martens, “but I get teary eyed when I think about future generations still working on this road in another 75 years.”

The event also included a ribbon cutting of the new really shitty section of the highway that needs to be repaired.

“Oh, it warms my heart to see something like this,” said Martens. “Long live Highway 75 and all its cracks and potholes.”
