Following in the tradition of anti-protest-protest songs like “Oskie from Muskogee,” bro-country superstar Jason Aldean has just released a brand new song that describes the passive aggressive response one might face in a small Mennonite town.
“Do something bad, do somethin’ shitty / ‘Round here they’ll make sure and form a committee /
Cross a line and they won’t bring out a gun / But they’ll talk behind your back and you’ve been shunned”
“Try That In A Small Mennonite Town” has skyrocketed to the top of the country charts, although there has been some backlash to the song’s perceived message.
“It’s promoting non-violence,” said country music critic Garth Siemens. “I really think that’s the wrong kind of message to be sending right about now.”
“Try that in a small Mennonite town, and that’ll be the day / When they’ll gather around you to lay on hands and pray.”
