OTTAWA, ON
Federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has suffered an embarrassing case of premature election this week, the youngest sitting politician ever to suffer in this manner.
“It’s my first time encountering this ailment,” said Trudeau, 49. “They say premature election is an old politician’s disease, but I’m here to say, yes folks, it can happen to anyone at any age.”
Trudeau apologized to the nation, saying he really didn’t mean to spring a premature election on the county in the middle of a pandemic, but has been told by physicians that it “sometimes it just happens.” Federal election representatives confirm that premature elections can affect Canadian politicians at any age and, so far, they say there is no known solution to the problem.
“Even fixed election dates don’t seem to fix the problem,” said one Elections Canada medical expert. “As soon as you arrive in Ottawa, it seems you suddenly get an uncontrollable urge to call an election whenever the heck you feel like it.”
It’s estimated that 6 out of 10 Canadians will suffer from premature elections in their lifetimes, although that number is much higher in Ottawa and in every provincial capital.
