ROSETOWN, MB
Young Steven Froese of Rosetown found himself without a poem or Bible verse to share at the gathering this Christmas, which resulted in the six-year-old going home completely empty handed.
“Ugh, I guess I learned my lesson,” said Froese. “I need to be better prepared for next year.”
Froese says he’s going to start memorizing next year’s poem right away so that he’ll have it all ready to go when Oma makes all the grandkids go up there twelve months from now.
“I heard it took cousin Timmy at least that long to memorize his verse,” said Froese. “Gotta strike while the iron’s hot.”
After reciting their verses or poems, all the kids gathered around the tree in anticipation of their reward.
“And all it was was a paper bag full of peanuts,” said little Susie. “Ugh, reciting the first three chapters of Leviticus was not worth it at all.”
Oma says she’ll gladly up the reward next year, so long as the kids are willing to recite the Christmas story without fumbling on the name Quirinius.
