LEAMINGTON, ON
When area man Garth Bueckert missed his monthly tithe this Sunday, Pastor Dave hauled him into the office for a friendly little chat.
“So, Garth, I see we didn’t get your payment this month,” said Pastor Dave. “Do we need to get the excommunication proceedings started?”
Bueckert pleaded with the pastor, explaining that the cheque was in the mail.
“So you’ll get it just as soon as this strike is over,” said Bueckert. “I sent it a full two weeks ago, I promise. Nothing I can do about it now.”
The issue of missing donation cheques being stuck in the mail, has the church considering modernization for the first time in its long and storied history.
“We don’t have a piano, we don’t sing in harmony, and we don’t have even allow using a tractor on a Sunday,” said Pastor Dave. “But for the very first time we’re considering accepting e-transfers.”
With his “cheque in the mail,” Bueckert believes he’s safe for now, or at least until the strike ends sometime in 2026.
