Mennonite Man Wakes Up Just In Time for Next Year’s Sunrise Service

STEINBACH, MB

Area man Kyle Berg, 42, decided he’d set his alarm and get up a year early so he doesn’t miss next year’s sunrise service.

“Sleeping in is always a risk for me,” said Berg, “so, I just made sure my alarm would wake me up 364 days ahead of time.”

Berg has found all this extra time in the morning has given him the chance to brush his teeth, shower, and finally complete those bathroom renovations.

“Plus, with all this extra time before the service, I might even bring my wife that breakfast in bed she’s been asking for,” said Berg. “Who knows? Maybe I’ll even get around to doing my morning devotions.”

The sunrise service 2026 is scheduled for 6 am on Sunday, April 6, though Berg is already concerned he might not make it again this year.
