Mennonite Woman Disappointed She Didn’t Find Out About the ‘Hammer Throw’ Sooner

MORRIS, MB

Area dairy farmer Ruth Plett of Morris, Manitoba just discovered there was an Olympic event called “hammer throw” this afternoon after Canadians Camryn Rogers and Ethan Katzberg each came home with gold medals.

“I guess it’s too late for me to enter the competition,” said Plett. “It’s too bad, because I’m a real pro with a hammer. A chisel, too.”

After spending the last 28 years on a dairy farm, Plett is familiar with most tools and even has hucked a few at her annoying younger brothers on occasion.

“If I knew you could get an Olympic medal for that, I would have been on the first plane to Paris,” said Plett. “What’s next? An Olympic medal for shoeing horses or mucking stalls?”

Even though she’s disappointed she’s not an Olympian, Plett says she’s content to let others take the glory.

“Hey, you know, maybe I can enter next time in the wrench tossing competition,” said Plett. “Or how about Robertson screwdriver hurling?”

Plett plans to spend the next couple weeks using her hammer to make a new coop for the chickens.
