Mennonites Praying for Snow Day So They Can Miss Church Tomorrow

CALGARY, AB

With snow beginning to accumulate on Saturday evening, Mennonites across southern Alberta were hoping for a snow day on Sunday morning.

“Oh would you look at that coming down,” said Dave Krahn of Calgary. “If it carries on like this, they might even cancel church tomorrow.”

As everyone knows, however, as soon as you say it out loud, it’s not going to happen.

“Ugh, they never cancel church,” said Krahn. “Not like in the Fraser Valley where all it takes is a single snowflake.”

Krahn says he gathered his kids and the whole family spent all evening gazing out the window in anticipation.

“They’re fine with going to school,” said Krahn. “It’s Pastor Ron’s sermons they’d prefer to miss.”

As of press time, the City of Calgary was officially 5 cm short of cancelling church.
