Radical Mennonite Woman Pairs Sausage with Potatoes

DALMENY, SK

In a radical departure from centuries of Mennonite tradition, area woman Ruth Plett, 51, decided to throw a ring of formavorscht in with the potatoes this Tuesday afternoon.

“I didn’t feel like pinching perogies today,” said Plett. “I figured potatoes would pair just as well with sausage as vereniki does. Or so I thought.”

As the smell of cooked sausage wafted throughout the Plett household, the family eventually began to gather in the dining room anticipating the meal.

“Waut de kuckuck is this yet?” wondered Ruth’s husband Art. “Potatoes with farmer sausage? It doesn’t give such.”

Ruth assured her husband that he would survive the encounter, though Art was not convinced.

“We have rules in this house,” said Art. “And I really don’t appreciate Ruth’s brazen disregard for everything I’ve worked so for all these years. It’s like she’s throwing it all away.”

Ruth said that if Art doesn’t like it, he can spend all day making his own vereniki, to which Art responded that he’d been dining at his mother’s house from now on … though Ruth seemed just fine with that, too.
