Church librarian Margaret Pankratz nearly fainted this afternoon after discovering several “f bombs” and a few “a words” in a copy of the Rudy Wiebe classic The Blue Mountains of China that she finally got around to reading.
“Jauma lied!” exclaimed Pankratz. “How did this get in the church library. And in the Devotional Literature section yet. This is the kind of language I expect from Miriam. But Rudy? Oba nay!”
Pankratz says she much prefers good old fashioned Low German profanity like Diewel Devil Schinda or even Deutschlaund and Donna.
“But this Englisher swearing yet, nah, jung,” said Pankratz. “I’m going to have to bring this book to the elder board I’m afraid.”
Pankratz said the only other time she’d found words like this in the church library had been pencilled in the church meeting notes by a particularly mischievous teenager.
After reading a few more chapters, Pankratz was uncertain whether she’d actually report the book to the elders or let it slide since it was such a great read.
