Trey Parker and Matt Stone Convert to Mormonism

SALT LAKE CITY, UT

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have felt the burning in the bosom and have decided to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to the crass cartoon South Park, the pair is also known for their Tony Award-wining musical The Book of Mormon, an irreverent spoof on the history and teachings of the church.

“It really got us thinking,” said Parker, with his new Mormon wife and six children. “When we made that musical, we set out to lampoon Mormonism and its founder Joseph Smith, but after the constant haranguing of the twenty-year-old missionaries standing outside our theatre every night, we gave in and converted. It was the right thing to do.”

The two will now depart on a six-month mission to Zimbabwe where they hope to bring the Book of Mormon (the scripture, not the musical), to the good people of that country.

“My prayer is that we can undo all the damage that the musical did,” said Stone. “Maybe we’ll even get Robert Mugabe into the fold.”

But the pair doesn’t plan to stop there.

“Over the years our television show has offended every religion you can think of, so our objective is to convert to each one and then win back all the souls our comedy turned away,” said Parker. “Next on the list is Scientology.”

Upon hearing the news that Stone and Parker would be becoming Scientologists, every single actor in Hollywood let out a resounding cheer.
