TV Remote Far Too Complicated for Taunte Mary

GRETNA, MB

Taunte Mary of Gretna had to call her nephew Phillip yet again this past week when she couldn’t figure out how to get the television to turn on after having watched a DVD of ‘Doctor Zhivago’ the night before.

“That remote control just has far too many buttons on it,” said Taunte Mary. “I pressed the little red one again and again yet, but nothing happened at all.”

Phillip explained to her that if she had previously been on DVD mode, she now had to press the ‘TV’ button before pressing power in order to control the television.

“Oba, in my day there was just an on and off button and a button to make it louder and button to change the channels,” said Mary. “Now, there’s a ‘Video on Demand’ button, an ‘Info’ button, a ‘Setup’ button, and even an ‘Exit to TV’ button. I have no clue what any of these eefeltijch buttons do.”

Phillip said this was the fifth time this month his aunt had called him for technical support.

“I don’t mind helping out,” he said. “I just wish she’d apply the advice I gave last time to future remote control emergencies.”
